I’m sitting here watching some stupid piece of shit thing about the The Da Vinci Code. I’ve never read it, but feel free to buy it through that link. Or you can click on the overstock.com link over there and buy it through them. They might have it cheaper, and they’re usually cheaper.
The entire thing sounds like something I’d post to the Daily Paranoid Delusion…which I haven’t quite got up and running yet, so I won’t be linking it….
I’m currently in the middle of re-reading parts of The Coming Plague : Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance, which is a very fun book…if you’re into really long nonfiction books about diseases. Not exactly light, fluffy, easy to understand reading. Not like that Harry Potter crap.
Maybe ‘crap’ is a little harsh. Harry Potter is okay. I only watch the movies when they show up for free OnDemand, and the first book [the only one I read] left me feeling cheated and empty. R. L. Stein’s Goosbumps books gave me the same feeling when I was younger, and the novel version of Episode 3 kinda made me feel the same way, too. But it’s getting kids to read, so that’s a start. And it’s pissing off a bunch of christian adults with nonfunctioning sphincters who’ve never read much of anything….
…how to transition…hm….
I’m part of a minority; I didn’t drop everything I was doing and run out to read the new Harry Potter book. I keep hearing that Dumbledore dies. I also keep hearing that just typing those words can increase your hits. I wonder how accurate that is….
…anyway. I’m not sure what else there is to talk about….
I’m waiting for notification of shipment on a few things — anticipating tracking numbers, really. Tracking numbers are just so much fun. Sitting at home, watching the textual representation of cross-country progress, wondering if the date they’ve given is going to be the date, or if it’s going to show up earlier or later…sad, isn’t it?
I got one of those little over-the-toilet shelving things…I think it’s called an ‘etagere’, or something. I’m considering keeping a few of my books about diseases on one of the shelves, just to be very strange. I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers there….
I finally broke down and bought that book last night, because I was already getting something else from amazon.com. I’ve been told so many times that I absolutely MUST read it, and the few pages available to read at amazon seem to confirm that it is funny, so…I figured it couldn’t hurt. I got the hardcover.
The other thing I got from there was a vacuum cleaner, the Eureka 431A Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum.
I had one of those old EuroPro Shark stick vacs for the old apartment. If you know me, you know what happened at the old apartment, though, and can probably understand why it doesn’t work anymore.
Also, I have about twice as much vacuuming to do here as I did at the old place, so I needed something full sized.
Choosing vacuums is hard. None of it makes any sense to me — why do they cost so much, and why are there so many different kinds when they all seem to have the same limited and barely useful number of attachments?
I guess I’ll find out how well this one works…if I can even tell. I’m not sure what I’ll be looking for. All I know is that it’s bagless, green, and apparently ‘lightweight’, compared to other vacuums. Also, it didn’t cost $500 like those fucking Dyson things that always turn up first whenever you go looking for things which suck and clean floors….
I’m sure anyone reading this is now as tired as I am….
