The Dark Crystal

That movie that everyone else on the planet [including the…what’s the cute term? Pre-born children?] saw in the eighties — one of the many I missed out on. I finally watched it. In fact, I just got done watching it.

Overall, I didn’t hate it. Then again, I didn’t hate Neverending Story, either. I’ve done some searching, and found some strange reviews, mostly by people who were scared shitless by both movies….

I don’t really get it. I suppose that, in order to get it, I’d have to be about five and very easily frightened.

I did think it was a little weird…but not scary. The closest it came to being scary was when I first saw that gelfling thing. I now understand something I don’t think I ever wanted to understand — that thing that’s happening to Michael Jackson’s face, he actually means for it to happen. He wants to become Jen….

I’m kinda wondering why that ‘dying master’ thing’s hair waited a few seconds to follow him into the magically-disappearing-yoda afterlife. I’m also wondering why that Aughra thing didn’t try to eat the Gelfling. She kept going on about smell and looks, why not try taste? It might be the only way to be sure, after all….

Stupid little things like that always bug me, like, say, with Neverending Story, why didn’t Falcor just fly Atreyu over the oracle? And why didn’t anyone ever think about just…not going through the canyon like that, or climbing around behind the oracles, or climbing down into the canyon past them?

I think I’ve got another movie to watch….
