My day didn’t quite go as planned. I wanted to head off to the 10:35 showing of Silent Hill this morning, but that didn’t quite happen. I’ve been told that we’ll go tomorrow, and I really hope we do. I’ve been filling the rest of the rather pointless day with CSI, and fill-ins [little word/number puzzle things, kinda like crosswords, but without the clues].
More recently, I’ve been reading the ‘reviews’ of Silent Hill, and I’m noticing two things:
1. Stupidity can still piss me off.
2. Movie critics — specifically, the ones working for newspapers — are fucking stupid and full of themselves. As if movies are made just for them, because they get paid to write shit about them.
I have yet to see a positive review in a newspaper-type website. I’ve seen two fairly positive reviews, but they were…not newspaper websites. And at least one of them admitted they’d never played the fucking game….
The rest of them, though…every one I read makes me feel like I just need to dig out one of the old PS1s that’re probably living in the garage and go on a nasty movie-critic abusing rampage with it. The absolute worst thing I’ve seen so far is some twit from a Canadian paper calling Pyramid Head [or Red Pyramid, or OHWTFISTHAT?!, whichever you prefer] something with an anvil for a head.
I don’t know if I’ve ever said this before, but I love the series. Sure, I’m a seriously sick Zelda fan — I’ve had the next-one-that’s-just-never-coming-out preordered for almost a year now, but Silent Hill is the most me thing I’ve ever actually seen outside of my own head. I will be very, very cranky if this movie sucks, but at least I’ve played the fucking game.
Well, okay, technically I’ve only gotten through 1, 2, and a good half of three, but there were…circumstances. It rained in the hallway. That’s really not the point, though. I at least know a little of what went on in the games.
I suppose there would be fewer employed movie critics if a little actual knowledge was required before they hated all over something.
People suck. This world needs more cases of spontaneous human combustion….
Joshie’s seen it and said it was excellent, so I was quite surprised. And apparantly, a lot of fans of the series who’ve seen it, ended up liking it, at least somewhat. It doesn’t seem to have flopped as hard as I thought it would. I want to see it now, too. Plus, I think Joshie’s going to murder me if I don’t, but it’s all good.
I recall the same kind of crap reviews (albeit Yahoo! user revies) of Alexander. It seems that some people didn’t know Alexander the Great liked to kiss boys. It also appears that some film critics didn’t know that no one really gives a shit what they think.
