I’m currently in the middle of Netflixing Profiler. I might’ve mentioned that before. Season 3 today, and hitting a downtime in the weekend, because Netflix doesn’t do anything during the weekend.
But that’s okay, I guess. I’ve got a bunch of other stuff.
In the last few days, I’ve gone through a bunch of audiobooks. Why? Because that’s the wonderful goodness that my iPod gives me. The ability to read while WALKING and loading the dishwasher and a whole bunch of other things. Sure, I already could do some of that, but now I can read two things at once. Sorta.
Now that I have my new earbuds — Koss “The Plug” — things are a lot more…comfy. And quiet. They’re great. Noise-cancellation without the $300. pricetag.
The first audiobook I listened to — the first one ever, actually — was How to Survive a Robot Uprising [UNABRIDGED] [also available in what I assume is book form.] Then, I think I went straight into The Universe in a Nutshell.
They were both good, easy-to-listen-to books. And, hey, they were both educational, too.
After that, I think I started trying to listen to some essays by Stephen Jay Gould, but decided to listen to Darwin’s Origin of Species thing that people fuss over so much. Damned thing has quotes in at least two different languages in it, though, so I eventually had to give up. I’ll have to actually read that one, so I can translate the fucking words….
I’ve also listened to at least one part of A Short History of Nearly Everything. I’m not sure why, except that, well, I could.
There was also some Poe, some Lovecraft, and a bunch of Grimm’s Fairy Tales that were all fairly entertaining to listen to.
And, of course, some stuff that I couldn’t quite get into, sit-down-and-read-wise. I knew I’d never read another Dan Brown book again, so I listened to Angels & Demons. It’s slightly better than The Da Vinci Code, but that’s really not saying much. They both feel a lot like fanfic, and every character is either a Mary Sue or a Gary Stu….
Let’s not forget the ‘I was going to read it, but never got around to it’ category. Douglas Adams’s Starship Titanic is probably the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to, followed closely by the book I’m listening to right now — American Gods. This is one book I plan on actually reading, but I can’t seem to stop listening to the strange old man reading the story….
I’ve got a bunch of other books waiting for me. Pretty much everything available from the Harry Potter series, for example. Yes, I should be ashamed to admit that, but…the one time I tried to actually read any of those books, I was left feeling…empty and stuff. I don’t even remember the book, so I’ll listen to them instead. Maybe that will help.
The iPod really is an amazing little thing.
Other than that, there’s really not much going on. I’m sure nobody cares about how I moved the litterbox from the corner in the now-actually-being-used-as-a-dining-room to the big room-already-full-of-crap downstairs.
