Amazon Prime is nifty. I ordered Hannibal Rising on Sunday, it somehow shipped Monday, and I got it about halfway through yesterday.
Unfortunately, it was a very short book, so I was able to finish it even with the two hour walk we took at around sunset yesterday.
I thought it was a rather good addition to the ‘series’, or whatever you want to call it. I don’t actually care what anyone else has to say about that — it fits, and it leaves a largish gap where yet another book [or two] could fit. I wouldn’t exactly be upset if there were another book or two, because I actually enjoy reading about Lecter. Movies…I can mostly do without those, because there’s a lot of room for movie-makers to fuck up royally.
If you’ve never read any of Harris’ books, I wouldn’t recommend starting with this one. Go back to Red Dragon and read that first, then The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. It may seem out of order, but I think that knowing the end of the story [as it stands right now] is important before you read the beginning.
Thinking about it, I might go back and read the books again. I haven’t ever read them all in a row, and it’s been a while since I spent some quality time with Lecter….
I’m rather jealous you got the book before me. But if you hadn’t you wouldn’t be able to tell me about it! As far as the movie goes; it doesn’t look that bad from the german trailer or the promo shots; but of course we know that means Nothing, as there are plenty of trailers that are better than their movies.
I’ll probably see it in theatres anyway; it’s tradition.
It’s funny, I was actually about to go see if there was another book coming out in that series anytime soon. Awesome.
