We ended up going to CompUSA today, and, for some reason, I ended up looking at their teensy little selection of DVD players — most of which happened to be DVD recorders. Based on everything I’ve ever heard from my mom about those, I instantly did not even consider buying one. It seems as if my mom is back at the store trading one in for another every few weeks because of how well they don’t work.
They had some regular DVD players, though, all slim and shiny and mostly Sony branded, and some of them even had HDMI-out. And I’d been thinking about looking for one of those, now that my TV has HDMI-ins. Not just any DVD player with HDMI-out, though. I was thinking about looking for one that did that nifty thing that would make all my movies look even better on my spiffy new TV.
They had exactly one of those. Luckily, it was the LG, and not the Sony. So, now I’ve got one more DVD player hooked up to my TV. Because you really need a good seven or eight of those, right? Because I’m still using my other DVD player, because that’s the one with all the speakers. And that still seems to work nicely through some miracle of Magic Cables. Also, some Science.
So, now I have four remotes, all of my HDMI inputs are taken, and one more thing hooked up to my TV.
…and a whole bunch of new books. Because there was a bookstore, too. Damn B&N and their damned cheap self-published reprints of ‘classics’.
But I’ll get to those later, when I’m not enjoying DVDs nicely upconverted to 1080i for a reasonable price. And, if 1080p ever becomes an option for me [I see no need yet, especially based on the funny problems they’ve been having with some of the displays and playback at the store], this thing will even go that far.
I really only took the chance because the guy at the store said I could return it if I didn’t like what it did. I don’t think I’ll be returning it; I just wish I knew where to put it.
