Adventures in Computer Crappiness.

So, I was having some…issues with my laptop, and I wanted to fix those issues. But that could never be easy.

Here’s what’s happened so far:

I couldn’t update Ubuntu for some fucking reason. Probably because there was something wrong with the wireless card. So, I thought about just reformatting, but I wasn’t sure if I could get wireless back [because I didn’t remember a few important details]. So I reset my wireless router.

Mistake number one. Expecting that to go well.

For some reason, I completely fucked that up. Maybe it was because I was dead tired and I had a headache, and I was more interested in finding ANYTHING [even celery] for my cucumber feta dip. Never get into networking when you’ve got your mind on dip. It never ends well.

So, I went to bed all pissed off, and then I woke up even more pissed off, because it wasn’t even working for the DS like it was supposed to.

Reset number 2 went well. I got wireless working in Windows on the laptop, but not under Linux. So…to hell with it. Reformat time. Except…once I started in on that, I wanted to go back and redo the entire thing. So, after trying out the latest version of Ubuntu [it’s nice], I just went ahead and reformatted the entire thing. Windows first, Linux second.

More later….

Edit: it’s later, and I’ve got the whole dual boot thing happening again. I’m installing Opera and Wine and a few other things right now, which is why I’m writing this instead of…well, doing anything else.

Edit 2: I just wanted to mention that there is absolutely no reason the average Windows user can’t use the latest release of Ubuntu [7.10]. Some things may be a little confusing, and require a little thought, but anyone capable of looking things up and following a few simple directions will be able to figure it out. There are some things you probably cannot do yet, but for the average user? It will work.

So I don’t want to hear one more fucking thing about how you have to be smart or advanced to even think about using Linux, okay? It’s over. Move on, and find something else to be elitist about.

Go on, say something....
