I’m the first to admit that I’m not very good at this sort of thing — whatever you want to call it. Reviewing a book. I’m not good at movies, either. I tend to over-explain one thing, but leave out something important until later. And I usually spoil the entire thing.
Which might be why I’ve put off that thing Gremlin asked me to do for his books. I’m not very good at it.
Fortunately, Duma Key kinda takes care of itself in that way. It explains itself, without explaining itself. Right on page 237 of the hardcover, end of the second paragraph.
“The water runs faster now. Soon come the rapids.”
It doesn’t make sense now, and it might not even make sense to some of the people who’ve read the book, but that’s it.
