So fucking be it….

I found this on a messageboard I sometimes read. I can’t reply to it there because I’m not an old enough/active enough member, so I’ll do it here, on my website. It’s one of those FWD things that people sometimes get, all YAY CHRISTIAN and BOO ATHEIST SATANWORSHIPPERS and stuff….

This will be overly long, but I’ll post it once whole, and then line by line for responding….

THE LAW IS THE LAW
So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words “under God” to be on our money, then, so be it.

And if that same government decides that the “Ten Commandments” are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in schools, on which they deem their authority, then so be it.

I say, “So be it,” because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.

I say, “So be it,” because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American publics’ best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I’D LIKE?

Since we can’t pray to God, can’t Trust in God and cannot Post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don’t believe the Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I’d like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Easter. After all, it’s just another day.

I’d like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it’s just another day.

I’d like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the “Christmas Break.” After all it’s just another day.

I’m thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Good Friday and Easter.

It shouldn’t cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be “politically correct.”

In fact, I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshiping God…) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day….!

What do you all think????

If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the minority opinions and begin, once again, to represent the ‘majority’ of ALL of the American people.

SO BE IT………..

Please Dear Lord, give us the help needed to keep you in our country!

‘Amen’ and ‘Amen’

Now….

THE LAW IS THE LAW[/blockquote]

Simple enough, if…stupid to say. Yes. The law is the law. What the hell is that supposed to mean, though?

So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words “under God” to be on our money, then, so be it.

So far as I know, ‘under god’ has never been on our money. It’s “In God We Trust.” If there’s any current case against “In God We Trust,” I cannot find it online with a quick search.

Seeing this mistake, I have to wonder if the person writing this is convinced that the words [whatever they may be] have always been on our coins and paper money. Hey, maybe money’s always looked as it does right now….

And if that same government decides that the “Ten Commandments” are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

I already get the feeling that this is nothing more than an email written in an emotional fit by someone who isn’t fully aware of the facts. I don’t even know what ‘ten commandments’ issue they’re talking about here. Doing a search seems to turn up a lot of shit on that, but I’ll just pick that one that had to do with that judge in Alabama, or wherever.

Maybe this person should have a little visit to Washington DC, and have a look at some of the buildings. There are representations of Moses — in the context of ‘lawgiver’ and not ‘religious figure’, though. There are other things along that line, too, and even a representation of the ten commandments — symbolic tablets with roman numerals, if I’m to believe what I’ve been able to find on the subject. I myself have never been anywhere near these buildings.

What’s the difference between that and the ginormous ten commandments monument that was ordered removed? It’s all a matter of context, I suppose. The monument in Alabama was nothing but a gigantic display of religion — an endorsement. The things in the supreme court have to do with law, and they’re not all, well, ‘Christianity YAY!’

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in schools, on which they deem their authority, then so be it.

It’s gonna take me a minute to make sense of this — mostly the ‘on which they deem their authority’ part. Something about it makes no sense. No sense at all….

I shouldn’t have to say this as many times as I have to, but — prayer is not prohibited in school. School-led prayer is prohibited. Teachers cannot lead a prayer. The school day does not open with a prayer. A student may pray before their lunch, or before a test, or at any time. Disrupting class, of course, is not allowed, but that’s not just about prayer. You’re not supposed to disrupt, period.

Still having trouble with that other bit. This is about public schools…which…aren’t they controlled by the government? I don’t know. Nevermind….

I say, “So be it,” because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.

…and a sheep.

I say, “So be it,” because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

Sad, but true….

I would like to think that those people have the American publics’ best interests at heart.

It’s in your best intrest to bleat incessantly but follow. Of course….

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I’D LIKE?

A new capslock key?

Since we can’t pray to God, can’t Trust in God and cannot Post His Commandments in Government buildings,

Who said you can’t pray to or trust in god? Nobody, so far as I know. What you do is your business, now, isn’t it? Beyond that, the government has certain rules IT has to abide by, and one of those has to do with the establishment of a religion. That’s why you can’t put up tacky, horrible monuments that endorse your bloodcult. You can’t do it, and I don’t get to either. Now, if you want to make a deal, maybe we can come to an agreement. Your commandments built into an altar to Cthulhu, perhaps.

I don’t believe the Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

If you weren’t allowed to have prayer or trust, I don’t think you’d be allowed to have these silly beliefs, either. Why do you want to have it both ways?

In my experience, Christmas and Easter are less a religious celebration and more a family-gathering day that involves things that are very not christian — unless you choose to attend those forms of celebration that are christian.

What you’re proposing, though, is doing exactly what you’re pretending the government is doing to you. Nobody, however, is prohibiting you from doing much of anything that doesn’t infringe on another person’s rights. Nobody prevents you from saying a quiet prayer in school. Nobody prevents you from having your celebrations, but you’d like to prevent others from doing what you have the freedom to do. That is…wrong, to say the very least. Disgusting, too. And awfully unchristian of you.

I’d like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Easter. After all, it’s just another day.

I’d like my mail delivered on Sunday. I notice you don’t include THAT in your little list. And here’s another mistake — Good Friday is NOT a ‘no mail day’. You can find the list of holidays/no mail days on the postal service website. Good Friday is not among them. Also, this year, Christmas Day is a day later than usual. Funny that….

Easter is a Sunday. Mail is never delivered on a Sunday. While you’re bleating, though, you might as well start demanding that chocolates, baskets and bunnies stop being sold as part of the Easter celebration, because they also serve to remove your god from your precious holiday. Please, by all means, infringe upon the freedoms of everyone that isn’t exactly like you. Also while you’re at it, fix Christmas, because it’s really not all that ‘christian’ anymore.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday; it has fuckall to do with your god.

I’d like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it’s just another day.

Why just the US Supreme Court? Is this just a personal grudge thing? Don’t forget about the rest of the government — it’s not just the court up there, y’know. And what’s good for the government is good for the people — no more holidays for you, either….

I’d like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the “Christmas Break.” After all it’s just another day.

There you go. But, just ‘christmas break’? Okay, we’ll call it “New Year’s Break.” Can’t touch that, can you? And why no complaints about THAT little No Mail Day, huh? I certainly don’t like it. I think we should get rid of all those days, and Sunday’s too.

I’m thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Good Friday and Easter.

…except for the price that would go toward operating the government on those days. And, since the Post Office isn’t closed on ‘good friday’, I’m not convinced that the government as a whole shuts down on that day.

It shouldn’t cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be “politically correct.”

No thought went into this part of the argument….

In fact, I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshiping God…) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day….!

I’ve never seen anything of the sort about Sunday being ‘just another day’ — except it really is, y’know. No arguments there. Especially since you’re supposed to be doing all that on Saturdays….

A little research would’ve shown that certain parts of the government indeed DO operate on Sunday, but, as I thought, this entire thing is all about the emotion and not about the facts.

What do you all think????

I think you should learn to punctuate….

If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the minority opinions and begin, once again, to represent the ‘majority’ of ALL of the American people.

Would it be upsetting to find out that the majority didn’t agree with you at all? Maybe the majority doesn’t think that your little group should have preference over all. Or maybe the good thing about this country is that the minority aren’t supposed to get stomped on just because a bunch of crybabies want their god smeared all over everything.

SO BE IT………..

Public education failed you. You should’ve paid more attention instead of praying so much.

Please Dear Lord, give us the help needed to keep you in our country!

Is that why he let those planes fly into those buildings? Because you asked him to?

‘Amen’ and ‘Amen’

It’s really offensive when people who cry about their ‘rights’ being stepped on turn right around and declare that everyone else but them should be stripped of theirs. Fucking hypocrites. It’s people like this that make me rethink my whole position on ‘I don’t hate christians.’

…bleh.

Go on, say something....
