Y2K vs Personal Computers

So come 2000, what are you going to do about this Y2K bug? I have a laptop my dad bought from Taiwan that is guranteed Y2K proof, but my sister will most likely take that when she move out (she's getting married at the end of the year. Don't know how it'll work out, she picks fights at the most petty reason, I feel sorry for her boyfriend). Since my computer is not a part of say, an intergral part of global society responsible for things like the economy or security, I'm just going to wind the clock back one year.
Maybe when I move out (Having finished HSC, going to Uni), I'll try get my own computer. I'm pretty sure computers built after 2000 is going to be 2000 compatible.
Anyway, all these hype about 2000 is getting to everyone's head. I remeber reading in the feedback section of New Scientist that someone found a chopping board labelled "Year 2000 compatible".
So look out, you better check if the chair you are sitting on right now is Y2K compatible, you don't want it crashing on you now? Well do you?
